High tide for France
Synopsis
Rising sea levels looks like being of a problem than expected. Scientists now talk about a rise of about one metre by 2100. This rising of the waters will wreak havoc on the French coast. Will we give up land to the sea or not? Will houses, islands and villages have to be abandoned? What will happen to the waterfront havens of Languedoc Roussillon, or Britanny’s Isle of Sein, whose average altitude is only 1 metres? What will happen to Picardy’s Cayeux sur Mer, a town that is already below sea level? Its habitants and politicians are wondering how to anticipate the future. For the researchers, it’s already time to think ahead and prepare. It will not be possible to protect everything whatever the cost…. Hard choices will have to be made. Without being alarmist, this film projects us into a future already perceptible through ongoing battles with the sea, which often come to nothing.
